August 10, 2023 – 15 members and guests in attendance at Sew to Speak, including 1 new member.
President’s Report:
Ohio State Fair: Our guild sponsors the Modern quilt category at the Ohio State fair. Barb, Susan and
Cynthia H. hosted the quilt display on 8/6 and helped take down the quilts.
You should have received an email from the Modern Quilt guild with a link for voting for our Region 3
representative on the National Modern Quilt Guild Board of Directors. Voting is open through 9/8
QuiltCon registration for members opens 8/15 at 10am EDT. If you are planning to go, you might check
that you are able to log in before hand. If you are a member of our guild, you are a member of the
national guild as well and should get member pricing and early registration privileges.
Logo: The National Guild is updating their logo and we will be doing the same with ours. Barb is
contacting some designers to help. If you know of someone that might be interested in helping with a
new logo design, please let Barb know.
2024 Guild Officers will be voted on at the October meeting. Please consider running for an office, and
let Barb know what you might be interested in. Co-Chairs are welcome. We reviewed the duties of each
office during the meeting and job descriptions are on the website.
President, VP, VP Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership, Social Media, Fund Raising, Charity are out
guild offices.
Treasurer’s Report: Current balance is $4,976. We took in $135 last month, mostly from new member
dues.
Secretary’s Report: We have a group planning to go to Quilt National in Athens on 8/27. We’ll stop at
quilt shops in Belpre and Nelsonville for All Ohio Shop Hop stamps and have lunch in Athens, too. Let
Susan know if you’d like to join us.
Charity: The winning design for the 2024 QuiltCon Community Outreach challenge was created by Linda Selby. Linda will have block kits at the September meeting for us all to help construct the quilt. They are only taking the first 80 submissions this year so we’d like to have the flimsy done by October 15 when submissions open. Barb motioned to set aside $300 for supplies to make the quilt and shipping the quilt should our entry be accepted.
Our charity project this year is Dress A Girl Around the World. Our goal was to have 30
completed dresses by the September 14 meeting. Mary has already collected more than 40 so we have
exceeded our goal! Thanks to all who have helped with this project. She will take any other dresses you
have at the September meeting and then ship them to the charity for distribution to girls in need.

Programming:

Kelsey Danley is teaming up with Victoria Findlay Wolfe for a seminar the evening of October 3, 6-9pm
at Wild Goose Creative. Tickets will be $20 and Kelsey will forward registration information soon. Kelsey is a returning member of our guild and co-owner of Ohio Drip.
Patty and Cynthia A. are planning a retreat for next fall. More details to come.
Lissa is planning our annual holiday gift exchange. We will each get a small paper bag at the September meeting. We’ll fill that with scraps from our stash and exchange them at the October meeting. Then we’ll each make something from the scraps we receive and exchange our items at the December meeting. Thanks to Mary for the fun idea and to Lissa for coordinating it!
Tonight’s program had many of us making personal pressing stations from wood tray tables. We had fun making these useful items together. Picture will be posted soon!
We wrapped up the meeting by sharing some of our recent projects.

The 2024 QuiltCon challenges have been announced. Quilt entries will be open from September 1 to
October 31. Visit QuiltCon.com/challenges/ for additional details. These quilts may be any size up to a
