President’s Report:

The challenges for QuiltCon 2025 have also been announced. See the national MQG site for more details on how you can participate.
MQG Make a Difference Challenge is underway. This year’s theme is Pollinators. Submissions will be taken August 5-18 and voting will be open August 21-27. Winners will be announced at the end of August. See the MQG website for more details and challenge rules. Proceeds will benefit Wild Earth Allies.
Entries for the Ohio State Fair Art Competitions, including the quilting division, are now open. Entries will be accepted through June 21 at 1pm. Find details and entry forms at OhioStateFair.com. Quilting is under Creative Arts, Crafts & Fashion.
For the past several years the Central Ohio Modern Quilt Guild has sponsored the 4-H trophies for the quilting division at the Ohio State Fair. To do so again this year would require a $275 donation. Trish motioned to continue this sponsorship with a $275 donation for the 4-H trophies at the Ohio State Fair. Lissa seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
COMQG Merch: We have an account with Redbubble to supply COMQG logo merchandise. There is a link on our website. Shipping is pricey so you may want to team up for a group order to share the cost.
Treasurer’s Report:
Current balance is $6152.24. $1379.84 is reserved for the Retreat. $200 was paid to Mary Maben for her quilt collage workshop.
Meeting Program:
Foundation Paper Piecing. Packets were provided to try out various techniques during the meeting. We also share tips and tricks:
Carolina Moore has a water pen that allows just enough water over your stitched to make tearing away the paper easier.
Cynthia demoed how she creates a template of each piece so the shapes needs can be cut ahead of time to limit waste. She also used a transparent cutting board over a light box to make it easy to see fabric placement on the templates. It also helps with accurate fussy cutting.
Another member suggested starching the fabric first to keep those tine pieces accurate and also limit stretching on biases.
Upcoming Programming:
Kathy Faust is hosting a Hand Work sewing circle at her home on the first Thursday of each month during the day. If you would like to join, please contact Kathy directly or through the guild email address, CentralOhioMQG@gmail.com. All are welcome.
Our June meeting will cover the EQQ8 quilt design software with a zoom presentation by EQ8. Patty sent out a link to a video for us to watch prior to the meeting. There is also a form where we can submit questions we may have on the product. If you did not get the link, or have an difficulty viewing it, please contact Patty through the guild email.
We will be starting a scrap challenge to be worked together over several months. Suggested patterns to use are “Wanderer’s Wife”, Elizabeth Hartman designs, Bonnie Hunter designs, etc. The idea is to use scraps we already have on hand. More information to come.
2024 Retreat – Mark your calendars for the upcoming fall retreat on November 10-13, 2024. Members are asked to send a non-refundable fee of $50 for members or $75 for non-members to the guild to secure your spot. If you need to cancel, this amount is non-refundable, but you may “sell” your spot to someone else if need be. Everyone will need to make their own hotel reservations. There is a block of rooms for $129/night. Call 330-403-3050 and request a room with the Central Ohio MQG block for this reduced rate. Rooms include 2 queen beds, a refrigerator and microwave. The Berlin Grande allows for free cancellation up to 30 days prior. If you would like help with a roommate match, please contact the guild at CentralOhioMQG@gmail.com and let us know.
