Expenses: $99 mid-year dues assessment for the National MQG $101.42 for the EQ8 presentation, $36.58 for retreat expenses.

Income: $48.50 for a retreat attendee, $21.89 mid-year dues from a new member

Programming:

At tonight’s meeting we enjoyed a presentation by Nathania Apple of Cherrywood Fabrics. We learned how Cherrywood applies color theory to their beautifully hand-dyed fabric bundles and designs and how we might also use color theory in choosing color for quilts.

The Wanderer’s Wife scrap quilt challenge is underway. Final quilt tops should be completed by the September 2025 meeting. The “Wanderer’s Wife” by Jen Kingwell is the suggested pattern, but you may use any “scrappy” quilt design. Finished quilts should be at least 50” x 50” and include at least 25 different fabrics. The idea is to use scraps we already have on hand. If you are making a Wanderer’s Wife quilt and have not been receiving the emails, please email the guild at centralohiomqg@gmail.com so we can get you on that email list which includes FPP patterns for the various blocks.

2024 Retreat – Our fall retreat will take the place of our regular November meeting

For our December meeting we will do a scrap challenge gift exchange and pot luck dinner like we did last year. If you did not exchange scraps at the September meeting, please bring them to the October meeting if you would like to participate. Fill a brown paper lunch bag with scraps and write your name on the bottom of the bag. Should you choose to participate, you will have until the December 12 meeting to make a gift for another guild member with those scraps.

July’s program was “Negative Space in Modern Quilting” by Augusto Garcia (IG handle @capaquilts). If you missed the video or would like to rewatch it, it is available in the National Modern Quilt Guild resource library on the National MQG website. There are now two quilt projects using negative space available on the MQG site if you’d like try using the concepts from the July program to make a wall hanging or pillow cover. A full size “Negative Space” quilt project guide has now been posted as well.

For this year’s charity project, we will be making quilted postcards for senior citizens through the “My Dear Friend” program. We will be making these cards for distribution at a Senior Citizen/Nursing home during the holiday season. Please consider making a couple cards to brighten the holidays for some of our older community members. The only requirement is that they say “My Dear Friend” somewhere on the card. An email was sent from the guild to sign up so we know how many we can commit to.  There was also an email sent with a link to a good tutorial for making quilted postcards.
