Treasurer’s Report

Current balance is $5,429.94. There were no expenses or deposits received since the September meeting.

Dues of $45 per year are currently being accepted and will extend membership through calendar year 2-2025. Current treasurer Cynthia Adkins asked members to try to get dues paid before the end of the year so she can get the deposits made before she hands over the Treasurer position to the next Treasurer. The guild accepts Venmo, PayPal, cash and checks.

Programming:

We enjoyed a presentation by Becky Dickson of SAQA, Studio Art Quilters Association. SAQA is a non-profit organization that has members all over the world who promote art quilts, “a creative visual work that is layered and stitched…

Becky spoke about the qualities that make an art quilt and mentioned many materials that can be used to embellish the surface including Tyvek, beads, buttons, silk roving, etc.. She had an offer of a $20 discount toward membership dues which are currently $110. They have monthly meetings via zoom which are usually attended by members from all over the globe. She estimates there are approximately 100 members from Ohio. She brought two dozen or so mini quilts mounted on 9” x 12” photo mounting frames in cellophane sleeves, and asked us to pick our favorite. Then we discussed why we picked what we picked. Discussion ensued and it was suggested this might be a fun challenge for the guild to do for a future project.

Becky mentioned two local SAQA members have a presence in Columbus with occasional shows or presentations – Sue King and Beth Schillig.

The Wanderer’s Wife scrap quilt challenge is underway. We had a show & tell of members’ blocks and then a drawing of the participants in the show & tell happened. Trish Jacquemin won the bundle of Cherrywood fabrics.

A reminder: The “Wanderer’s Wife” by Jen Kingwell is the suggested pattern, but you may use any “scrappy” quilt design. Finished quilts should be at least 50” x 50” and include at least 25 different fabrics. The idea is to use scraps we already have on hand. If you are making a Wanderer’s Wife quilt and have not been receiving the emails, please email the guild at centralohiomqg@gmail.com so we can get you on that email list which includes FPP patterns for the various blocks. The due date for this project is September 2025.
