COMQG May 8, 2025 meeting minutes

The meeting, which was held at the Worthington Library,  was called to order at 6:35 PM by Susan Shuter.  Dorothy Michalski led an ice breaker with members shareing what they say, or do, that is like their mother. 

Libby Vynalek has agreed to be the Vice President Elect and will help Cynthia Adkins with programming. Thank you Libby!

President report: 

  • QuiltCon 2026 will be from 2/29/26 to 2/22/26, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Hotel blocks are now available. Please see the national Modern Quilt Guild (MQG) website for details on Quilt Challenges.
  • The national MQG is looking for a Treasurer.
  • There will be a show at The Art Barn in Athens, Ohio. MQG entries are accepted through June 16.
  • The Franklin County Fair is July 14 – 20. Entries must have been made within the last 5 years and are due by July 3. Shifts for ‘white glove’ volunteers will be 9-1, 1-5, and 5-9 during each fair day. See Dorothy for details.
  • The Ohio State Fair entries are due by June 21 at 1:00 p.m. 4H trophies are $325 total or $65 each. The members decided to sponsor 1 trophy for $65.
  • NOTE: You will not be able to enter both the Franklin County and Ohio State Fairs as the exhibit dates overlap.
  • The Art Quilt Alliance show at the Audubon Center in the Scioto Audubon Metro Park continues through June 22. The title of the show is ‘Flights of Fancy’.
  • The Quilt National Field Trip to The Art Barn in Athens, Ohio will be July 19. There are currently 11 people planning to attend.

Treasurer’s report:

Presented by Susan on behalf of Jennifer Herschner.

  • Balance: $5,042.35
  • Income: $ 485.00 for retreat and for donations for batting for charity quilts
  • Expenses: $ 370.70 for speakers, printing, and PayPal fees

Charity Updates:

Melissa Ritts reported that labels are available for your My Very Own Blanket quilts. We have our first quilt completed. Please give your tops to Trish as soon as possible so she can provide the longarm quilting for them. Please go to their website for details.

Vice-President’s Report:

Cynthia Adkins announced that a workshop to learn to make Temari Balls will be $25 and can be paid to the guild via PayPal. Each attendee will have hands-on instruction on 3 different designs.

End of Business Meeting

Monique Kleinhause of Ladybug’s Cabin presented via Zoom. Her topic was Thread Painting.

Show and Tell was held, the meeting adjourned.
