COMQG June 14, 2025 meeting minutes
Submitted by Dorothy Michalski
The meeting, held at the Old Worthington Library, was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Susan Shuter. Thirteen members and 1 guest were in attendance. Dorothy Michalski led an icebreaker with members sharing how they get their sewing mojo back when it is (temporarily) gone. Lots of good responses to this one!
President’s report:
- The Quilt National Field Trip – July 19, 2025. We’re traveling to Athens, Ohio to see the bi-annual Quilt National show. Since more than ten of us are going, we are getting a group discount of $10/ticket instead of the standard $12 charge. It is not too late to join us if you want to participate. Email your interest to centralohiomqg@gmail.com
- The Franklin County Fair is July 14 – 20. Entries must have been made within the last 5 years and are due by midnight on July 3. ‘White Glove’ volunteers are still needed to work a four-hour shift in the building where the quilt show is hung. If you want to volunteer for a shift, please send an email to the guild email account, centralohiomqg@gmail.com
- The Ohio State Fair is July 23 – August 3. Deadline to enter a quilt or other crafts is June 21 at 1 PM. It is not possible to enter the same quilt(s) in both fairs; there is an overlap in showing dates. State fair entries must be dropped off on July 17th, at which time any quilts in the Franklin County Fair will still be on display. If you want to enter quilts in both shows, make sure they are different quilts!
- QuiltCon 2026 will be from 2/19/26 to 2/22/26, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Sign up for classes is on August 20 at 10 AM EST. If you plan to enter a quilt in the show, the entry dates are September 1 through October 31, 2025. More discussion about QuiltCon 2026 will happen at the next in-person meeting on September 11 at the Northwest Library.
Treasurer’s report:
- Balance: $5,042.35 start/ $4,676.58
- Income: $ 100.00 for Temari workshop
- Expenses: $ 465.77 for OSU trophy sponsorship, Spoonflower logo fabric, and PayPal fees.
Programming:
We enjoyed a presentation by Linda Selby on ‘Zippers, Zippers, and More Zippers’, an informative and entertaining lesson on how to install three different kinds of zippers in bags. We also learned how to thread zipper tape onto a new zipper pull with the aid of a Gypsy Quilt Hardy Zipper Jig.
Show & Tell:
Many great quilts and bags were showcased. Pictures will be shared on the guild’s social media.
