March 2018 Meeting Minutes

Cassandra

-Introductions: Name, IG, what are you looking forward to this spring?
-Riley Blake Challenges are due on April 22nd.
-The Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA – http://www.saqa.com/) have gifted us a copy of their Modern Inspirations Catalog (https://www.z2systems.com/np/clients/saqa/product.jsp?product=973&), which features artwork from SAQA Global Exhibition “Modern Inspirations: Art Quilts from the 1970s Through Today.” Cassandra will bring this to the next several meetings and members are welcome to peruse the catalog for inspiration!
-Our Modern Quilt category was approved for the Ohio State Fair. Be on the lookout for sign-ups to participate in a pending make-and-take/meet a quilter event, as well as dates for our participation in the State Fair.

Nadia

-Please be sure to make your voice heard in the Programming/Retreat survey (https://goo.gl/forms/6sWxpy4fMXCBzfj82).
Anne Marie Chany (more here)
-possible lecture by Anne Marie Chany to be held at the August 9th meeting
-possible 6-hour workshop on Hoop Quilts with Anne Marie Chany to be held on Saturday, August 18th.
-Guild would pay for the venue space, Anne Marie’s cost of travel (she is local), and the lecture for all members.
-whether or not non-members would be allowed to attend the lecture is pending
-the workshop would be capped at 20 students (set by instructor) so if more than 20 members were interested we would hold a lottery for enrollment
-the members attending the workshop would pay for the workshop fee (estimated at $40 per member) since not all members can attend.

Libs Elliott (more here)
-possible lecture by Libs Elliott in 2019
-possible full day workshop with Libs Elliott to be held that same weekend in 2019
-Guild would pay for venue space, cost of travel (Libs is located in Toronto, Canada), room and board, and the lecture for all members to attend.
-whether or not non-members would be allowed to attend the lecture is pending
-the workshop would be capped at 20 students (set by instructor) so if more than 20 members were interested we would hold a lottery for enrollment
-the members attending the workshop would pay for the workshop fee (estimated at $50 per member) since not all members can attend.

The purpose of the survey is to a) get a reading as to whether or not guild members would be interested in any of these opportunities and b) to get guild permission as to whether or not the officers may proceed with the booking, if a majority of members are interested.

Retreat

-possible retreat dates are listed in the survey
-rental of the full house includes beds for 15 members, all food and drink, and space for quilting from Friday until Sunday.
-attending members would split the cost of the retreat (package is $3600, or $240 per attendee)
Survey is due Saturday, 3/10/2018

Angi

-bank account is at $2,785.58 as of tonight, before any dues from tonight have been added
-dues are $35 and due no later than March 15th
-existing members who have not paid dues will be dropped from the roster, mailing list, and private social media group in April.
-Dues can be paid by cash, check, or paypal to centralohiomqg@gmail.com (include your name and ‘dues’ in the notes)

-the ‘snake quilt’ project for Joann’s is due by the April Meeting at the very latest
-members who are partaking in the project are encouraged to take pictures but NOT TO SHARE THEM as this is a private project
-installation at the Polaris location will take place on May 10th

Kate

-members are encouraged to sign up for a week of Instagram Takeover and/or Member Spotlight, if they wish
-continue to check the website (updated several times per week) for dates, bee block information, and other news

Sonia
-presentation of possible color palettes for the fundraising quilt
-Members in attendance voted; Winning Color Palette: “Color Mix”
-Fundraising Quilt sew in on Saturday 3/31 at the Old Worthington Library from 10am to 1pm
-if you cannot make it to the fundraising quilt sew in, please get in touch with Sonia to have a kit mailed to you
-please get in touch with Sonia if you’d like to help either hand or machine quilt the project

-possible fundraiser: using Joann’s green fabric to make small, sellable projects for the various Irish festivals in the area

Lissa

-big thanks to anyone who has already made and donated placemats for our charity!
-if you are interested in working on placemats, please contact Lissa to get some official guild labels for your donation
-If anyone is interested in participating in James Stitching Sisters this year, contact Lissa to reserve a spot.
-the next charity sew in will be on April 15th at the Whitehall branch library. Lissa will be teaching string piecing, quilt as you go, and applique letters, but members are welcome to work on any technique for their placemat!
-supply list for the April 15th sew in: strips of fabric 1”-3” wide; contrasting fabric for applique; matching thread for applique; fabric for backing a 10”x14” placemat; white thread for label
-wish list for Senior PetCare: dog and cat food (wet or dry, already opened but not yet stale or expired is okay); toys; leashes; collars; bowls; flea and tick treatment; stain and odor remover. Gently used and washed/decontaminated items are welcome.
-drawing for those who have already donated a placemat: winner is Angi DeLong

Ashley
-the 2/24 sew in had a great turn out
-our next social is Handwork Happy Hour: Thursday May 17th from 6-9pm at Wolf’s Ridge Brewing Company in downtown
-Ashley and Nadia will have EPP supplies (Ice Cream Soda EPP block and basic hexies) for members who want to learn
-feel free to bring whatever hand project you’d like to work on, and to come and go as you please

-Colors of the Year Challenge winners: Brigette Wootton, Kate Schwartz, and Randa Johnson

Quilt Bee
-collection of Kayla’s March blocks: Nadia, Erin, Randa, Brigette, Ashley, Marah, Cynthia, Lissa, and Kelsey
-Introduction of Cynthia’s April blocks: a 25 patch checkerboard to go between her paper pieced stars from last year (click here for details)
