February 10, 2022 Virtual meeting via Zoom.
Meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm with 16 members & 4 guests in attendance.
Ann Feitelson was our guest speaker via Zoom. Ann treated us to her impressive trunk show. Ann’s use
of circles, stripes and especially color sequencing in quilts inspired by food, the cosmos and the natural
world were inspiring. More about Ann and her work can be found on her website, Ann Feitelson Quilt
Artist.
Rachel Wallis joined us to talk about the quilting class she is developing with prisoners at the Ohio
Reformatory for Women. They will work on developing basic sewing and quilting skills and create quilts
to donate to location community groups. Rachel is currently seeking both material and cash donations
to outfit a sewing studio with tools and supplies. You can find more about her program at Prison Quilting
Program – Rachel Wallis (rachelawallis.com)
Barb introduced the idea of Sewing Circles to the group. This would provide an opportunity for small
groups of similar interests to meet outside of our monthly meetings. An email survey to gauge interest
was sent to membership on 2/13.
Treasurer’s report: 24 paid memberships so far in 2022. Current balance is $4,954 (this does not include
the membership dues collected so far in 2022 or Ann’s fee for her trunk show tonight).
Secretary’s report: Susan introduced a post-card swap as our 2022 challenge. We will break out into
groups of 3-5. Each participant will be challenged to make a 4×6 postcard for each other member of
their circle. This will give us all an opportunity to play with design and technique without a large
investment of time. And, best of all, we will have some keepsake samples of each other’s work at the
end! Some examples of quilted post cards can be found at Tutorial: How to Make Quilted Fabric
Postcards (saroy.net), and Quilted Postcards, The Card is in the Mail – QUILTsocial. Numerous other
examples can be found on Instagram and Pinterest. Please let Susan know if you would like to join us.
Guild Programming: Lissa has scheduled some great programming for our Guild meetings.
3/10 -Maggie Marconi will give a virtual presentation on quilt labeling. Send a photo of your favorite
label to Maggie. QuiltCon 2022 recap to take the place of show and tell this month.
4/14 – Linda will provide a virtual demo on making the zipper pouches we will be putting together for
the Ohio 4-H quilters participating in the State Fair this summer
5/12 – Pre-recorded virtual workshop on “Hawaiian applique with a twist”
Zoom Sew-ins will be held the Saturdays after our meetings from 10-2pm. Barb sent an email with a
zoom link that can be used for each sew-in. Save this link to your calendars for easy access.
QuiltCon 2022: If you are attending QuiltCon 2022, please let Lissa know ASAP so we can set up a group
meet up for a picture with our Community Quilt entry at the show.
Charity project: We will be making pouches to fill with sewing related items to give the 4-H quilters at
the Ohio State Fair in July. Linda Selby will provide a virtual tutorial at out 4/14 meeting on the
Noodlehead Cosmetic Case which we will use for the pattern. Fabric and supplies (including our logo
panel) will be available. Lissa will schedule some sew-ins so we can work on these together
We are looking for small notions to fit inside the bags which are about 9”x7.5”. Our goal is 140 bags.
Lissa has emailed a spreadsheet of potential donators and is asking for volunteers to contact one or two
each to ask for donations for the bags. If you know of anyone that might like to include something,
please let Lissa know.
At the conclusion of the business meeting, several members showed off their completed projects during
Show and Tell.
Please send Show and Tell photos to Lissa no later than the Wednesday evening before our Thursday
meetings so she can include your pictures. There will be no show and tell in March. Instead, our Quilt
Con attendees will share their experiences.
