COMQG January 9, 2025 meeting minutes

Submitted by Trish Jacquemin

The meeting, which was held at the Worthington Library,  was called to order at 6:40 PM.  An ice breaker led by Dorothy began the meeting.

Lanakila and Brooke had  zoom set up to do a trial run with it.  Hopefully we will begin to offer Zoom meeting options in February, 2025

Reminders from Susan:

There is a hand quilting group that meets on the 1st Thursday morning of the month at Kathy Faust’s home.  Please contact Kathy or a board member for more details if you are interested.

The Innis Woods quilt show is coming up—details of this and other quilt shows will be on the web site.

Remember we have a RedBubble account to order COMQG merchandise.

****We have 2 open board positions.  Please consider helping us out.  Contact a board member for more details if you are interested.

Vice President Elect—this person will work this year with Cynthia on this year’s programming and will develop the 2026 programming.  It is a 2 year commitment.

Fund Raising Chair—We did not do any fundraising last year so really need to do some this year to keep our bank account healthy.

Lanakila will be heading up a small quilt project this year which will bring in money from raffle tickets sold.

Treasurer’s report

Our beginning balance was $5422.09.  We had $252.01 in income and $374.20 in expenses resulting in an ending balance of $5299.90.   We have a pre-approved programming budget for 2025 of $1900. We have $400 allocated for liability and $250 allocated for technology.

A motion to approve $1300 for the 2026 programming budget was put forward.  Suzie Fabro motioned to accept, Melissa seconded and it passed unanimously.

The charity program of quilted postcards was successful.  The left over pouches made for the 4-H kids were given to Trish to use for the kids she teaches sewing to.

This year’s charity focus will be the organization My Very Own Blanket, which makes quilts for foster kids.  We will focus on quilts for older kids, particularly boys as they are often overlooked.  Melissa will be sending out specifics and we will obtain labels from the organization to use.  The focus will be on bold colors.

Lanikila reviewed the zoom meeting process and will continue working out the bugs.  The rest of us will continue to work on standing on the masking tape mark in front of the camera.  Lol

National Quilt Day event will be another luncheon at the Farmstead Restaurant in Amish country with the NE Ohio MQG.  It will be on 3-15-25.  We will be able to shop from 9-12.  Lunch will be from 12-2 at the Farmstead Restaurant at 4757 Township Rd 366, Berlin Oh  44610.  An embroidery class by Kori Turner Goodheart of Olive Grace Studio (www.olivegracestudios.com)will be held from 2-4PM.   The total for lunch and the kit for the class is $55.  We are also planning a small pouch exchange with the members of the NEOQG.  The last day to register is March 10, 2025

Registration is open for the COMQG retreat to be held November 9-12,2025 at the Berlin Grande Hotel.  You can call the hotel to make room reservations.  Make sure you tell them you are with the guild to get the special pricing of $135/night.  Registration for members runs until February 28, 2025 and will open to the public on March 1, 2025.  Cost is $55.

Lanakila will be offering a class on making her super cool balls.   More details will be coming.

A program on organizing your mind and your sewing space was held.  Cynthia is sending out links to some organizational resources.

Next month a table will be set up to give away sewing goodies, fabric and odds and ends (must be sewing related—no spouses) Bring things to add to the table.  There will also be a program on circles.

Show and Tell was held and the meeting was adjourned.

Trish Jacquemin, COMQG secretary.
