Here’s the email from Cassandra:
Saturday March 25 is our first charity sew-in of the year, and I am so excited for us to contribute to such an amazing charity! We will be making mostly shield and liners during the sew in since there is the greatest need for these items. We can also do some totes as well. The items we make will go to our local chapter which will work with the national organization for kitting and distribution.
We will meet at the CML Dublin Library from 10:30-3 We will provide snacks (probably pastries and fruit), so please let me know if you are planning to attend so I can make sure we have enough! You are welcome to come for the full day or part of the day. We won’t have a full lunch provided, but I am happy to organize a pizza order (or something else) if we want to order lunch as a group. You are also welcome to bring a lunch or something to share, but it is definitely not a requirement!
Information on Days for Girls can be found here: https://www.daysforgirls.org
We will have patterns, instructions, and samples at the sew-in, but if you would like to look at the instructions ahead of time or begin cutting some shield pieces here are the patterns and directions. Please note that the new DFG website just launched and the link to the patterns is broken so you won’t be able to see them there until it is fixed.
What to bring:
Your standard sewing kit including your favorite fabric shears since there is a lot template shapes to cut for shields
Clover clips- We don’t want to puncture the PUL in the shields by using pins
Polyester thread in a medium to dark color
Any quilting cotton and/or flannel you would like to donate. We have purchased PUL, but if you have scraps you would like to donate we are happy to take those as well. Fabrics should be pre-washed. Brightly colored fabric that won’t show stains as much are perfect for this type of project. Please avoid fabrics with any type of animal, people, or faces of any sort. No camouflage prints. Butterflies with no visible faces are OK.
Any item you signed up to bring:
Sewing Machines:
Donna
Nadia
Cassandra
Judy (Serger)
(Lissa also loaned us a serger for the day, so we are probably good for making liners)
Iron/Ironing Board
Cassandra- I will bring a couple of small ironing boards and one iron
We still need a couple of people to bring an iron and ironing board!
Cutting Station (Mat/Ruler/Rotary Cutter)
Brigett
Barb
Susan
We are probably good on cutting stations, but could still use regular sewing machines and irons/ironing boards, so please let me know if you can bring one!
