Marah is our first Queen in the 2019 Bee. She is asking Bee participants to create for her an Advent Calendar Tree block. Instructions and step-related photos, below!
Step 1: Make the trunk
Step 2: Prepare the pocket. Fold over the long side of the green pocket piece, press.
Step 3: Fold over again, press.
Step 4: Topstitch at a scant 1/4″
Step 5: Align the pocket with the bottom of the tree fabric with the pocket right side up.
Step 6: Flip the two pieces over and place the paper piecing sheet on top. Using your fingers to feel the seam below, line up the two pieces with the line drawn across the center of the tree.
Step 7: Fold along the line between 2 and 3.
Step 8: Trim to 1/4″ as in normal paper piecing.
Step 9: Flip your trimmed pieces (holding together as a unit). Lay the white fabric on top. Flip all pieces back over and place the paper back on top, again feeling with your fingers to make sure the seam is in place.
Step 10: Pin in place to prevent the pocket from shifting. Stitch as in typical paper piecing.
Step 11: Press (no steam)
Step 12: Trim to prepare final seam.
Step 13: Lay your white fabric on top. Stitch.
Step 14: Press (no steam)
Step 15: Trim
Step 16: Stitch the trunk to the tree
