Central Ohio Modern Quilt Guild August 2022 Minutes

August 11, 2022 – In-person meeting at the Ohio Craft Museum
Meeting was called to order at 6:38pm with 16 members present.

President’s report:
Barb and Cassandra did the judging for the 4-H quilt entries at The Ohio State Fair. The sewing pouches
that were made for and given to the 4-H participants were a hit! They really liked and appreciated the
little gifts.
A few members had a nice field trip to see the Layered and Stitched exhibit at the Athens Dairy Barn Art
Center. The exhibit runs through 9/4 and plans are in the works for another guild trip on 8/28. Let Susan
know if you are interested in joining us.
QuiltCon 2023: To be held February 23-26, 2023 in Atlanta, GA. The 2023 Teachers have been
announced including our own, Cassandra Beaver. Course schedule has been posted. Registration opens
August 16 at 10am EDT for members. If you are a member of the Central Ohio Modern Quilt Guild, you
are also a member of the national MQG. Scholarships are available to help with expenses.
All members should have received a link to a google.doc that is a roster of all the Central Ohio MQG
members, their phone numbers and email addresses. The doc will be updated as new members join.
Please do not share this list outside the guild.
De-stash on the lawn (by Sew to Speak in Worthington) is scheduled for 10/1. The Guild will purchase 2
tables to sell remnants and promote our guild.
Discussion to rent a 5’ x 5’ climate controlled storage unit at a cost of $19/month. This would be used to
store fabric, supplies, projects, etc for Guild use. Barb will research the details further.

Community Challenge Quilt. Erica Olivares-Vincent is heading up the committee for this quilt. Members
submitted design ideas and voting concluded on 8/11. Erica will work with the winning designer and
quilt math goddess (Lissa) to finalize the pattern. The winning design will be announced the week of
8/22. And members will be able to sign up to participate in making the blocks for the quilt. Kits will be
available at the 9/8 meeting. We’d like to have the top done by end of October so it can be quilted and
bound and ready to submit in early December. We will make two quilts. One for the 2023 QuiltCon entry
and the other for our 2023 raffle quilt. We’ll wait until early 2023 to make the raffle quilt.

Treasurer Report: $2893 in the Guild account.

Secretary’s report: We have 15 members participating in the postcard challenge. A reminder email was
sent to participants on 7/14. Postcards will be exchanged at the October 13 Guild meeting. If you cannot
make it to the 10/13 meeting, please let Susan know. We’ll make arrangements to get your postcards to
your team members and pick up those made for you.
Fund Raising:
Holiday Raffle Quilt. There will be 3 prizes : 1. The Festive Baubles quilt and two matching pillows; 2. A
holiday table runner; and 3. A holiday themed tote. All of the baubles made by members were used in
the making of the prizes. Tickets can be purchased online at https://go.rallyup.com/centralohiomqg2022
You can also see pictures of the finished projects here. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Paper tickets are
also available for purchase from guild members. The drawing will be December 8. The winners will be
chosen by random drawing through our RallyUp account. The guild will make arrangements to ship or
deliver the prizes to the winners before Christmas.

National Quilt Day luncheon March 18, 2023 at The Franklin Park Conservatory 11am-4pm. Nicole
Young of Lillyella Stitchery
will be our guest speaker. The theme will be Friendship, Nature and
Butterflies to play off the conservatory and Nicole’s beautiful butterfly designs. Check out her IG page
@lillyellastitchery. Lunch will be catered by Creative Cuisine. Tickets will be $75 each and there is a 100-
person limit. This will include lunch, admission to the conservatory, the program by Nicole Young,
goodie bags/ favors and door prizes. We also plan to have a silent auction with some very nice themed
gift baskets. If you have additional ideas for the gift baskets, please contact Patty or Cynthia Atkins. We’ll
have Save the date cards will be available in September.
To get in the mood for the event, we decorated needle booklets with butterfly applique and had a
drawing for a mini maker station designed by Nicole Young and made by Barb. Dorothy was the lucky
winner!

Show and Tell – We wrapped up the meeting by sharing some of the beautiful projects made by
members. Look for pictures on Facebook and Instagram.

9/8 – 6:30pm – Monthly Guild meeting at the Craft Museum. Guest speaker is Steph Skardal.
September – Fabric Acquisition Road Trip (FART) is being planned.
10/13 – 6:30pm – Monthly Guild meeting at the Craft Museum. Postcard Swap.
