February 8, 2024 – 21 in attendance at the Northwest Library.

We started the meeting with introductions and an ice breaker: What other “craft” would you like to fall in love with?

Then we moved right into our programming for the evening. Mary demonstrated 3 methods of English paper piecing and passed out 1” hexie templates and 2.5” charm squares. We will assemble 28 EPP hexies to make the dumpling pouch by MichellePatterns.com. Then we’ll plan to exchange them at the April meeting. Use the below link to find the free Dumpling pouch pattern. You’ll want to use “The Easier One” for this project. If you missed the meeting, feel free to participate using your own scraps for the hexies. This will be fun to see what everyone comes up with. Contact Mary through the guild email

President’s Report:

National MQG Resources: A reminder that all members have access to TheModernQuitlGuild.com website which has great resources. A couple items of note under On-Demand Education; Value of Quilts Panel Discussion and Modern Traditionalism. Both of these videos are currently available to members on the National Guild’s website

QuiltCon Is offering a streaming lecture pass this year. All 28 lectures will be live-streamed, and replays will be available until March 4, 2024. If you can’t make it to Raleigh, but want to attend virtually, this is a great option. Go to themodernquiltguild.com for more information and to register.  You must register by Thursday 2/15.

Our Community Quilt will be displayed at QuiltCon and has already been purchased by the designer herself, Linda.  Proceeds will go to local charities in Raleigh. Thank you to all who participated in making the quilt.

Congratulations to members who had individual quilts accepted into the 2024 QuiltCon show including Lissa’s entry of the COSI quilt which she, Anne and Lissa’s son, Lucas put together from the blocks created by the community at the COSI Science Fair in May. Look for that one in the group projects category.

A survey was sent out for those who are going to QuiltCon in person. Let us know if you are going and if you want to be added to a group text so we can plan to meet up for a group picture with our community quilt submission.

COMQG Merch: We have an account with Redbubble to supply COMQG logo merchandise. There is a link on our website. Shipping is pricey so you may want to team up for a group order to share the cost.

Treasurer’s Report – Current Balance is $5597.03. We took in $360 in membership dues and $637.80 in retreat deposits for a net income of $997.80. Our expenditures included $528 for National MQG membership dues, $250 for the retreat deposit and $24.05 for postage to ship the Community Quilt for display at QuiltCon. Net expenditures were $802.05.

2024 dues remain at $45 for the year.  This is the same amount the National MQG charges for individual memberships. Dues can be paid via Venmo, PayPal, check or cash. Credit cards can be accepted at meetings and there is now a link on the website to pay via PayPal. If you know someone who would like to join, but needs financial assistance for the dues, please contact Linda or Cynthia through the guild email.
